M tapes are Brother's non-laminated P-touch tapes. The text prints directly on the tape surface, which keeps them affordable and makes them a great fit for labeling that stays indoors. They stick best to flat, dry surfaces like folders, binders, bins, shelves and school supplies.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between M tape and TZe tape?
M tape is non-laminated and made for indoor use. TZe tape has a protective laminate layer, so it resists water, chemicals, abrasion and UV fading, indoors or out. They're different cassettes, so use the type your printer is built for.
How do I know if my printer uses M tape?
Check the cassette currently in your printer. M tape part numbers start with M, ME or MK (for example M231). You can also find your printer in Step 1 above.
Which width do I need?
The width is printed on your current cassette. Choose 3/8" (9mm) for small items and 1/2" (12mm) for larger, easier-to-read labels.
Can M tape be used outdoors?
It's not recommended. Without a laminate layer, M tape can fade or wear outside. For outdoor labels, a TZe label maker is the better choice.
