About Brother TZe Tapes
Brother TZe tapes are the most popular labeling supply for the Brother P-touch system — and for good reason. Unlike ordinary paper labels, every Brother P-touch TZe tape is laminated: the text is printed and then sealed under a clear protective layer. That lamination is what makes TZe label tape so tough, and why it’s trusted everywhere from home offices to warehouses, workshops, kitchens and outdoor equipment.
Are TZe and TZ tapes the same thing?
Yes. Brother renamed its TZ tapes to TZe several years ago. The tape itself is the same laminated design, and TZe is fully backward compatible — if your printer or an old label called for a TZ tape (for example, TZ-231), the matching TZe tape (TZe-231) is the correct replacement.
Brother TZe tape sizes
Brother TZe label tapes come in six widths, so you can match the tape to the job:
-
- 1/8" (3.5 mm) — tiny labels for wires and small parts
- 1/4" (6 mm) — slim labels for cables and files
- 3/8" (9 mm) — everyday small labels
- 1/2" (12 mm) — the most popular all-purpose width
- 3/4" (18 mm) — larger labels and signage
- 1" (24 mm) — wide, high-visibility labels
Your label maker determines the maximum width it can print — check your model, or browse the full TZe tape size and color chart to see every width and color combination we carry.
Colors and specialty TZe tapes
Standard Brother TZe tapes are available in a wide range of tape and text color combinations — black on white, black on clear, black on yellow, white on red, white on blue and many more — ideal for color-coding and organization. Need something special? We also carry:
Built to last, indoors or out
Because they’re laminated, Brother P-touch TZe tapes are heat, cold, water, chemical and UV resistant. That makes TZe label tape a great fit for outdoor equipment, cold storage, near food, and industrial environments where an ordinary Brother label tape would smudge, peel or fade. Labels stay crisp and legible for years.
Which Brother printers use TZe tape?
TZe tapes fit the vast majority of Brother P-touch label makers — the PT-series desktop and handheld models, PC-connectable models, and industrial units. If you’re not sure which Brother label maker tape your machine takes, use the Shop by Printer Model tool on our Brother P-touch tapes page, or contact us with your model number and we’ll confirm.
Brother TZe Tape FAQs
What does the “e” in TZe mean?
It simply marks the current generation of Brother’s laminated tape that replaced the older TZ line. There’s no difference in how it works, and TZe is fully compatible anywhere a TZ tape was specified.
What’s the difference between TZe and M tapes?
TZe tapes are laminated and highly durable for indoor or outdoor use. M tapes are non-laminated and lower cost, best for basic indoor labeling. If you need labels that last, choose TZe.
Are these genuine Brother tapes?
Yes. PtouchDirect is an authorized dealer and sells only genuine, factory-sealed Brother TZe tapes — never third-party or generic refills — so they feed and print reliably in your P-touch label maker.
How fast do orders ship?
In-stock Brother P-touch tapes ship the same day on orders placed before 3:30 p.m. EST, with fast, affordable shipping.
